Improving the conservation status of the
Caucasian Black Grouse in Turkey
General Information Conservation Project Resources

Welcome to the Doga Dernegi Caucasian Black Grouse Project web site.

Of the many birds of North-east Turkey and the Caucasus, the Caucasian Black Grouse is one of the most intriguing and least known. The combination of stunning scenery – towering snow-capped mountains, dense forests, flower-rich alpine meadows – and the difficulty in actually seeing one - often it is just a small black spot on a distant mountainside - make it an exciting challenge but one which is well worth the effort.

Conservation of the Caucasian Black Grouse is of high importance throughout the Caucasus but in addition to the birds themselves, Caucasian Black Grouse can be considered a flagship for the conservation of the wide variety of wildlife that lives on the high mountain tops.
